This along with gender is an attribute acquired upon starting the game. It is chosen via a random seed generator and cannot be altered by the player at later levels (although some individuals have attempted to do so). Race usually determines the number of other players that look at the player suspiciously in a convenience store and alter the story element of the game by changing the insensitive dialogue choices that other players can choose in conversation.
